Last days in Sofia

I am back home now and already miss Bulgaria. So I went through all the pictures I took in the last week which I spend in the capital of Bulgaria and made the last post about this city.

The Bells monument is situated near the place I lived the last week. I wouldn't find it on my own because it is somewhere in the woods...

There are many bells from all around the world in different shapes and with different sounds. But no one from Latvia. :/

The dolls from wool is one of many evidences remained from Martenitsa...

Icons inside and outside the church. Also near the church many bizarre souvenirs with communism logo.

Some Socialist realism style sculptures.
Picture from Christmas market, which is near National Theater (Ivan Vazov). Surprisingly I didn't find any gingerbread. Not a single one! The only sweet treats were chocolate cookies, cupcakes and just chocolate made in different forms. And speaking about drinks, Bulgarians are keen on making wine, but hot wine is horrible. At least it was disappointment for me.

In the early mornings and evenings metro is overcrowded with people.

Miss the blue Vitosha...

In the last days could see the snow cup on top of it.

If you look close enough you can also see it in this picture in the background of church.

These beautiful benches in book trading square painted my volunteer friends from Spain, Italy and Latvia. :)

The big head statue of Stefan Stambolov in Park Crystal is the starting point of free food tour called Balkan Bites. Although it was really cold in the last day of my stay in Sofia I attended this tour and don't regret it!

Love those little shops and restaurants with unique outside and inside design!

Those little shops with the small windows very close to the pavement are 'squat shops'. Called so because obviously you have to squat or bend down to buy something. Majority of them sell goods like cigarettes, alcohol and snacks.

Oh, and those beautiful and colorful graffiti everywhere! Some days I spend just wondering around the streets of Sofia just for 'graffiti hunting'.

Miss you Sofia, the taste of your mineral water springs, atmosphere of those cozy restaurants and bars, the aroma of spice, nut and coffee shops, those few colorful walls which stand out on background of grey massive apartment buildings, street musicians by the metro, of course the warm metro itself and small 'banicarnici' in them, oh and the sound of bulgarian language.... and no less my volunteer friends! Wish you warm days and grasp as much as you can from Bulgaria! :)
