City of the Tsars

Велико Търново
For me it's more like city of beautiful houses, landscapes, mountains in mist, old-time atmosphere, lot of nice little souvenir shops, fluffy cats and endless stairs.

The old part of the city is situated on three hills Tsarevets, Trapezitsa, and Sveta Gora, rising amidst the meanders of the river Yantra.

By the way, this city used to be capital of Bulgaria!

   Monument of Asenevci
Turns out that the number of hooves lifted into the air on equestrian statues actually reveals something about the person on the horse...
The most common belief is that if the horse is standing with both front legs in the air, the rider died in battle. If the horse has one front leg up, the person was wounded in battle or died because of wounds. But if all four hooves are on the ground, the rider died of other causes (not related to battles).

 Tsarevets
This place is undoubtedly a must visit place in Tarnovo!

Although it was quite foggy the views from the fortress were even more beautiful... mysterious...

Evidence of an ancient Bulgarian Tradition (Martenitsa) celebrated every year on spring. I have seen before trees with few Martenitsi (bracelets made of twined red and white threads) on brunches, but not sooo many...!

Thanks a lot to my lovely volunteer//hosts from Tarnovo!
Huge Dzięki to Kasia for guiding me around (literally AROUND) the whole Tarnovo and sharing with such unusual drink idea as hot beer. :D Wish you all great time in Bulgaria and cozy Christmas holidays with hot chocolate! ;)***
